MyClassDocs ("we", "us") is a classroom documentation tool used by individual teachers. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the strict limits we place on access to student information.
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you sign up we collect your email address, a hashed password, and an optional display name and school name.
Classroom data you enter
- Student names, IDs, and roster information you add
- Attendance, behavior, bathroom, parent communication, and meeting logs
- IEP deadlines, services, and uploaded documents
- Grades, assignments, and portfolio items
Automatic information
Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps) for security and abuse prevention.
2. How we use information
- To provide the documentation features you actively use
- To secure accounts and prevent unauthorized access
- To diagnose technical issues and improve reliability
We do not sell student data, use it for advertising, or train AI models on it. We do not build profiles of students for any purpose other than displaying them back to you, the teacher who entered them.
3. Data isolation
Every record is scoped to your account using row-level security at the database level. Other MyClassDocs users — including other teachers at your school — cannot read your data. Files are stored in a private bucket and served through short-lived signed URLs.
4. AI features
Optional AI features (behavior pattern analysis, parent email drafting) send the relevant log entries to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. Inputs and outputs are not used to train Google's models when sent through the Gemini API. You can avoid AI features entirely and the rest of the app continues to work.
5. Third-party services
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage, edge functions
- Google Gemini — optional AI features
- IEPLaunch — optional integration that pulls IEP metadata you have access to
6. Data retention & deletion
You can delete any record at any time. To delete your entire account and all associated student data, email us at hello@classdocs.app and we will permanently remove it within 30 days.
7. Children's privacy
MyClassDocs is a tool for teachers, not students. Students do not create accounts. Teachers are responsible for complying with their district's policies and applicable laws (including FERPA and COPPA) when entering student information. See our FERPA Compliance page for details.
8. Security
All traffic is encrypted in transit (TLS). Passwords are hashed. Database access requires a valid authenticated session. We will notify affected users of any confirmed data breach within 72 hours.
9. Changes
We will post material changes to this policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.
